BET contracted Broadcast Management Group to provide full production and technical execution of two, 1-hour wrap-up specials following the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, OH and the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, PA. BMG provided two, 2-man ENG crews, Field Producers, PAs, Makeup Artists, and on-site Production Managers on the ground at each convention. Each team was assigned to 1 of BET’s 2 field correspondents and were responsible for shooting news packages, interviews, and daily newsbriefs for the duration of each convention.
Once each piece was shot, BMG fed all the completed content to our team of editors and producers off-site in New York who would then edit together news packages. On the Saturday following each convention, we shot a 1-hour live-to-tape special at the Newseum’s Pennsylvania Ave Studio in Washington, DC. The wrap-up special – titled “UnCONVENTIONAL” – featured 2 hosts and 3 guests and served as a re-cap of the previous week’s convention. Each of the pre-produced packages shot on location were rolled into the studio taping.
In addition to providing the field crews, control room staff, and overall technical and production management services, BMG produced both programs. We brought in a team of producers and editors who helped shape the direction of the program. Additionally, BMG provided all graphics for the show, designed all in-studio signage and social media graphics, and created the show’s intro.
