Project Overview

For the 4th consecutive year, IMDb contracted Broadcast Management Group to provide live production services, production staffing, and technical execution for their annual Oscars Viewing Party. In 2020, IMDb continued their partnership with the Elton John AID Foundation, who graciously agreed to provide access and space for IMDb to host their live program.

“IMDb Live at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party” streamed live to Twitch, Twitter, and IMDb. The live production consisted of 3 parts: a live pre-show, an exclusive 2nd screen experience that ran concurrently to the Oscars broadcast, and a live post-show. The program was shot with 13 cameras: 4 hard cameras, 1 jib, 4 robos, 1 ENG camera at the Oscars red carpet, 1 drone, and 2 manned cameras covering the Elton John AIDS Foundation charity dinner.

Broadcast Management Group supplied a post-production truck that housed 6 IMDb editors, each with a direct connection to the EVS in our production truck. Our live program and red-carpet interviews were clipped in real-time and pushed to the IMDb editors who assembled sizzle reels and highlights that were then played back during the post-show segment. Clips were also published on the IMDb site and social media channels as VOD clips. Broadcast Management Group had an ENG crew on-site at the Oscars red carpet shooting interviews that were also fed back live to our production truck and edited into packages for the pre and post-show segments.

Broadcast Management Group was responsible for all aspects of the live production, including technical management, production staffing, live transmission to Twitch and Twitter, lighting, audio design (including front-of-house), and overall production management services. Leading up to the live production, Broadcast Management Group participated in weekly production calls to provide status updates and provide editorial and technical guidance and suggestions.
