Tom Fearing started out as a music major in college but couldn’t resist the lure of broadcasting.

With a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas, he took his first engineering job at KFDM-TV in Beaumont, Texas and never looked back.

Along with working at affiliates television stations, one of Tom’s more interesting jobs was working at a company where he was planning for a television set up on the International Space Station.

After putting a 24-hour news channel on the air in Houston, Tom’s next stop was CBS. He was the Director of Technical Operations for CBS Newspath.  The is the division of CBS News that works with affiliate stations. While there, he designed major broadcast remotes for significant world events such as the selection of Pope Francis.  CBS had its remote position on the roof of a convent across from the Vatican. He also did the setup for the royal wedding of William and Kate, numerous political conventions, inaugurals, and space shuttle launches.

Tom also moved Newspath into the digital world with a transition from satellite technology to an all-IP transmission system.  This system changed the way networks and affiliates broadcast news. Tom then joined Broadcast Management Group’s Systems Integration Division.  He has designed BMG’s state-of-the-art REMI Broadcast Hub and REMI mobile units.

When Tom’s not keeping up with the latest in technology, he is an avid traveler interested in history and culture. He has scuba dived in many unique and remote places of the world.
