We’re gearing up for our 3rd consecutive year of live production at San Diego Comic-Con. To get into the Comic-Con spirit, we thought we’d recap some of the past live productions we’ve had the pleasure of working on.

DEFY Media, “Screen Junkies” Live from San Diego Comic-Con

In 2016, we produced 3-days of live programming for Defy Media during San Diego Comic-Con. We built our set and technical infrastructure at Moonshine Flats in the Gaslight District, which included 7 cameras, audio and comms, and on-site switching and encoding. We produced 12 live programs over 3 days, which streamed live to Defy’s YouTube channel, Facebook page and website (simultaneously).

IMDb, “IMDb Live from SDCC” (2016)

In 2016, IMDb was looking to produce some live programming at San Diego Comic-Con and contracted Broadcast Management Group to assist. IMDb was on-location for multiples days shooting multi-camera live-to-tape interviews, which were then cut down and posted on the IMDb website. With their technical infrastructure already in place, they wanted to end their last day of programming with a live production. Broadcast Management Group brought in all of the comms, transmissions gear and labor to turn their multi-camera interview set into a live program.

truTV, “Impractically Speaking” Live from SDCC (2016)

After truTV had a successful activation at San Diego Comic-Con in 2015, they wanted to expand their presence and add some live programming to the mix. They contracted BMG to help produce a live Q&A with the Impractical Jokers, which streamed live to the IJ Facebook page. BMG setup a control room and 4-camera setup at Dick’s Last Resort and streamed live from the venue. The program featured 1 host, 4 guests (each of the Jokers) and live Q&A with the audience.

truTV, San Diego Comic-Con Sizzle Reel (2016)

In addition to producing their live Q&A at Dick’s Last Resort, truTV also contracted Broadcast Management Group to put together a sizzle reel highlighting 2 of their San Diego Comic-Con activations: their live Q&A and the Impractical Jokers Block Party held at the Park at the Park (just behind Petco). Broadcast Management Group shot all of the behind-the-scenes footage and our creative services team edited together the final sizzle for truTV.

IMDb, “IMDb Live from SDCC” (2017)

We were back on the #IMDboat in 2017 assisting IMDb with their live Comic-Con coverage. Once again, we turned their multi-camera interview set into a live production and helped them stream a 90-minute program to Twitch and Twitter.

truTV, “Impractically Speaking” Live from SDCC (2017)

The Impractical Jokers returned to San Diego Comic-Con last year (2017) with an even bigger presence. They took over Petco Park with the Impractical Jokers Block Party. As part of the event, they hosted a live Q&A with the Jokers, which streamed live to their Facebook page. Broadcast Management Group setup a 4-camera production environment which was switched and streamed on location.
